Opencast: Q2 Conference & Castonbury 2024

We welcomed over 270 members of the Opencast team to their largest conference and summer party yet at the Vertu Motors Arena. The team attended their Q2 conference, which kicked off with a performance from the in-house Opencast choir followed by the main plenary address before breaking out into 11 informative concurrent sessions.

Later, the venue was transformed into ‘Castonbury’, Opencast’s summer festival themed party, complete with live music from the in-house band ‘The Castanets’, Koroleko, a West African drumming band, and Monster Ceilidh, who filled the dancefloor with their infectious folk music and Ceilidh dances. Alongside this, we ensured there was fun for all, with glitter stations, a merchandise stand, a giant inflatable whack-a-mole, a silent disco, delicious catering, and ice cream carts.

BeaconHouse Events had everything in hand to seamlessly switch from conference/breakout sessions to a Castonbury party, managing full logistics from registration, venue sourcing and liaison, catering, entertainment, hotel room bookings, stage management, and onsite delivery.

“I loved it so much—an amazing night, and you can tell the level of effort that goes into the organisation, the coordination on the night, and the consideration for accessibility and entertainment. Loved it! Very representative of OC people.” Opencast Team

Atomicon 2024

ATOMICON is the UK’s biggest sales and marketing conference, and in June 2024, we welcomed over 1,000 delegates to the conference both in person and virtually.

Day one was packed with fringe events spread across Newcastle upon Tyne, including workshops, member meetups, a speaker party, and even a TIKTOK dance mob. Following a busy schedule, delegates enjoyed refreshments, a balloon artist, and candy floss galore at the ‘Jazzy Shirt Night’, which was held at the Boiler Shop.

The main conference took place at The Glasshouse International Centre for Music and featured insightful sessions from 24 fantastic speakers, including Davina McCall, Jen Gottleib, Lisa Bilyeu, and the founders of the ATOMIC network, Andrew and Pete. The concourse was bursting with energy and fun things to do throughout, including a prosecco wall, exhibitor stands, stilt performers, a caricaturist, and delegates testing their balance on the surf simulator. The event then culminated in an afterparty at Revolución de Cuba. The virtual delegates were provided with access to all the live streams, a Zoom room open all day to network, and an immersive online murder mystery hosted by Play Dead London to keep them entertained.

BeaconHouse Events works closely with the ATOMIC team yearly to manage the venues, speakers, stage, sponsors and exhibitors, the virtual app, along with all suppliers, branding, signage and delegate collateral, and the onsite registration and event delivery. We look forward to the next installment with an even larger crowd!

“Unflappable. Professional. Problem Solvers. We trust you with our community.” Andrew Pickering, Co-Founder, ATOMIC

Dynamo Dinner 2024

In March 2024, the Dynamo Dinner made its return to the beautiful setting of Wylam Brewery.

The Dynamo North East community gathered for the event, for an evening of creating invaluable connections with their fellow members and North East tech professionals. Guests enjoyed a three-course dinner accompanied by locally brewed beers and a selection of wines.

A particular highlight from the evening was hearing from guest speaker Dan Martin of Swarm, who shared the story of his career journey, whilst offering a glimpse into the realities of running a business in the ever-evolving tech landscape.

With 130 attendees, the evening provided a meaningful opportunity for fostering connections and forging new relationships.

The 11th year of the Dynamo Dinner was a brilliant success and truly highlighted the power of community and collaboration, as like-minded individuals from the regional tech sector came together to exchange ideas and insight. We look forward to many more!

CF Games Night

BeaconHouse helped breathe new life into CF Fertilisers’ 75th edition of ‘FL Clark’ in March 2024, a long-established games night held at Billingham Synthonia Suites for employees of the Teesside-based fertiliser plant. The event forms part of a series of staff engagement events for the company, providing an opportunity for colleagues to have fun together and make new connections across their 190 strong workforce.

Teams competed in seven games during the night. In addition to classic favourites such as Jenga, darts and dominoes, teams battled in mini knockout rounds of air hockey, shuffleboard, Scalextrics and basketball shootout, all in pursuit of winning the illustrious FL Clark trophy (and avoid being awarded a wooden spoon for the lowest overall score!)

BeaconHouse helped manage all logistics of the event, from entertainment curation to schedule planning and onsite management.

“I never used to come to this event, but after I saw what you did with the Christmas Party I knew it would be good” 2023 Attendee

NICA – Chinese New Year

In February 2024, the BeaconHouse Events team worked with the National Innovation Centre for Ageing (NICA) to welcome over 60 guests to an event at the Catalyst Newcastle. The event marked the culmination of the NICA UK-China Healthy Ageing project, with an exhibition and celebration of Chinese New Year.

The team worked with NICA to curate a small exhibition that truly celebrated the end of their project and clearly displayed its research to guests. Alongside the exhibition, we worked with a number of brilliant suppliers to celebrate the Year of the Dragon. From a traditional lion dance performance to crafting lucky hanging decorations to sampling delicious dumplings and bubble tea, there was something for all of the guests to enjoy.

Just wanted to say thank you for our event yesterday.  The team were amazing, both on the day and in preparation.’
Sarah Nolan, Programme Manager, National Innovation Centre for Ageing

CF Fertilisers Christmas Party

Concluding BHE’s event programme for 2023 was CF Fertiliser’s Staff Christmas Party at Hardwick Hall Hotel in Sedgefield. The BeaconHouse team helped plan and deliver an evening of festive celebration to mark 100 years of site operation and a chance for employees past and present to relax into the Christmas weekend in style!

Guests enjoyed a 3-course festive feast, followed by entertainment in the form of eight lane Scalextric, reindeer themed roll and bowl and fast reaction game, batak. Live music was provided by local band Gotcha, and a DJ who helped guests continue dancing into the early hours. Away from the dancefloor, there was opportunity to take part in a Christmas quiz and raid the prop box to capture the fun with colleagues in the party photobooth!

From venue sourcing and liaison to entertainment curation and onsite management, the BeaconHouse team ensured every detail was taken care of. A perfect way to bring the year to a close as we look forward to continuing our series of staff engagement events for this client in 2024.

CF Fertilisers Family Christmas Party

In December 2023, BeaconHouse Events organised a Family Party at Billingham Forum, marking the first of two Christmas celebrations for CF Fertilisers. The event brought together CF employees, ranging from cleaning contractors to machine operators and senior leadership team, along with their families, for an afternoon of festive celebration.

The event began with a tasty finger buffet, while children enjoyed Christmas themed crafts, activities and guest bingo followed by a visit from Father Christmas! With full bellies, and exciting presents in hand, guests took to the ice to conclude the afternoon with a skate in the ice arena!

From venue liaison to activity curation, prop sourcing and room dressing, the BeaconHouse team executed all aspects of event delivery to ensure the first CF Family Christmas party was one to remember.

“My daughter really enjoyed the day! I’ve had lots of positive comments back from it from elsewhere also, so thanks again for the great event.”

The HyHubs HyHeroes Awards 2023 celebrated the brilliant people, organisations, and initiatives of the HyHubs community. The awards recognised the trend setters, the new kid on the block, the coolest workspace, the best boss, the most successful story, and more!
Tyne Bank Brewery in Byker was the backdrop for this special occasion, adorned with gold foil curtains, it brought the theme of Phoenix Nights to life. Paired with comedy from our host Gary Kitching, a little bit of close-up magic from Glenn Ward and live entertainment from ‘The Castanets’ band, it really was a night to remember!
BeaconHouse Events worked with the HyHubs team and expertly managed the judging process, ticketing, budget, script writing, awards slides, stage dressing, AV, entertainment, catering, and venue.

#Dynamites23 is THE awards for the North East’s tech industry, drawing over 440 guests. The Great Hall at Newcastle Civic Centre was the perfect setting for this grand occasion, with BeaconHouse Events at the helm, proudly presenting this annual event on behalf of Dynamo North East since 2014. From sponsorship generation to the judging process and the actual awards ceremony itself, every aspect was expertly managed and executed, making #Dynamites23 a night to remember!

Planet Mark Awards 2023

We had the pleasure of working with the Planet Mark on the 6th edition of their annual awards for 2023. Back at The Royal Institution, London allowed for 350 guests to come together and celebrate incredible achievements in sustainability.

Working alongside Planet Mark, we looked after guest booking and management, sponsorship relationship management, budget management and cost control. Together with management of the entries and judging process, script writing and production, production of staging and AV, venue management and liaison and venue dressing.
To our amazing Awards team
We have a tendency at Planet Mark and at BeaconHouse to move swiftly literally to the next event, as evidenced seeing you, Katie and your fabulous team at the _shift conference a week later! But I would like to take this moment in time, having reflected on just how meaningful this year’s awards have been for us, Planet Mark and our mission. It literally is our launch pad for our next 10 years.
Not only were our team and members spiritually and emotionally lifted by the event, this halo extended to our new family at Alcumus and their owners at Apax.
My email, LinkedIn and meetings have been busy with comments about how great it is to see Planet Mark doing our work and I wanted to let all of you mentioned here know, that you had a truly significant part to play in that.
The word progression has been used so often in relation to the Awards but is much more than that, as people have reflected that it extols our values, reaching hundreds of people.
This is another huge thank you for making it possible and was great to catch up on our exciting briefing session yesterday, as we plan out how we might make it even better.
Steve Malkin, CEO & Founder, The Planet Mark

Groundwork NE & Cumbria Staff Awards

Alongside donating the carbon credit equivalent to local community and environmental charity Groundwork NE & Cumbria, we also donate our time each December to deliver a virtual event for the Groundwork team.

Since 2020, we have had the pleasure of delivering their annual staff recognition awards with a festive theme. BeaconHouse Events helps to plan the event running order, briefs the team and key speakers, and provides full virtual platform management on the day. We ensure their awards are a moment for the whole team to celebrate, including newcomers, outstanding leaders, volunteers, and unsung heroes within the organisation.

Groundwork NE & Cumbria deliver a nature-based solutions portfolio of environmental community initiatives, including the continuation of Revitalising our Estuaries (RoE), a pioneering programme of river estuary restoration across the North East.

Thanks so much once again for all of your help, we just couldn’t do it without you.   Thanks again for all the juggling with 2 sets of slides – the team got a lovely surprise.
Lesley Gardner, Head of HR, Groundwork NE & Cumbria
