One of the best things about working in events; getting the chance to talk about an industry that we love.
Whether it’s at a networking breakfast or over dinner with friends, as soon as people find out what we do, curiosity kicks in. From celebrity sightings to leftover canapés, people are fascinated by what it really takes to deliver events at scale.
We thought it was time to share a few of our favourite questions (and the real answers behind them)…
“Do you go to parties all the time?”
If only. There can be moments when we get to swap exhibition hall for disco ball and enjoy the atmosphere we’ve helped create, but the truth is most of our time is spent in spreadsheets, site visits, stakeholder calls, and schedule planning. Those magical, memorable events don’t just happen, they’re the result of months (sometimes years) of detail-driven work. Good job we love it!
“Do you meet celebs all the time?”
Sometimes! We’ve certainly brushed shoulders with big names, but for us it’s not about the celebrity factor. It’s about making sure every single person, from VIP speakers to first-time attendees, feels looked after, engaged, and part of something special (it is also quite cool when you get to meet a famous face and introduce them to your world).
“How do you do it? You seem so calm!”
Pure swan. Behind the calm exterior is a team of seasoned professionals who have spent years fine-tuning how to stay focused under pressure. That calm comes from preparation, teamwork and knowing that we’ve got plans A, B and C ready to roll if needed. All that, and a lot of deep breathing and counting to ten.
“Do you ever get event lows at the end?”
There’s always a moment when the adrenaline wears off and the lights go down. But mostly, the end of an event is when the pride kicks in, seeing our clients, their teams, and their audiences energised and inspired makes every ounce of effort worthwhile. We thrive, seeing the success of an event we’ve worked in partnership to deliver – it’s very rewarding seeing the joy you help bring, and then…we get to do it all over again!
“What value do you actually bring? I organised my own wedding…”
Organising your own wedding is no small feat (*hats off*). However, corporate events, outdoor festivals and academic conferences have layers of complexity that go far beyond table plans. From health and safety compliance to attendee experience, curating floorplans and agendas, branding, ROI, sustainability, accessibility and legacy impact, we bring the expertise, networks and foresight that ensure your event delivers real business value. Albeit, we usually don’t have to plan to do so in a standout dress.
“Do you get to eat all the leftover food?”
Tempting as it sounds, no. We have bigger plans for the excess. We work with food-sharing app Olio to make sure surplus goes to people who really need it. It’s one of the many ways we build sustainability into our events (and it helps to protect our waistlines).
“Can I come to your event?”
Yes, if it’s a ticketed event! Many of the events we deliver are client or industry-specific, but we love seeing audiences engage and grow.
“How long does it take to organise an event? Like, 3 weeks?”
Sometimes work on events with a tight turnaround, but typically it takes a minimum of six months – we’re currently working on events that stretch all the way into 2029! While some activations can be pulled together quickly, most of our projects involve long-term planning to ensure they align with business goals, market outreach, audience needs and the bigger picture.
