Meet Claudia, our brand new project coordinator

15 May 2025

We caught up to chat about her decision to change careers, the realities of her new role and why she loves living and working in the North East.

Over to you, Claudia!

Let’s start at the beginning – how are you settling into life at BeaconHouse Events?

Really well!  Everyone’s been so welcoming. It’s only been a few weeks, but I’ve already been involved in so many things, from writing scripts for an upcoming awards ceremony to researching suppliers and venues and even diving into the early planning for some bigger projects.

What I love most is how varied the role is. It’s a real behind-the-scenes look at what it takes to make events run smoothly, and I’m learning something new every day, and the whole role is so varied, which is great.

You didn’t always want to work in events; can you tell us a bit about your background?

Well, I originally came to the North East to study paramedic science at Sunderland University. Both of my parents work in the medical field, and while I loved aspects of it, especially the high-pressure situations, I realised pretty quickly that it wasn’t the path for me. After some soul-searching (and a stint working as a barista back home in Lincolnshire), I found myself back up north, this time pursuing a degree in Tourism and Event Management at Northumbria University. That course really clicked for me. I’ve always been super organised, and I like being on the go. Events felt like the perfect combination of creativity, logistics, and people skills while still maintaining the high-pressure elements that first drew me towards being a paramedic; I think that’s where I really thrive.

And you didn’t just study it; you threw yourself into real-world experience too?

Yes! I was over the moon to get the opportunity to be an event production intern, working on Beyond the Horizon 2025, a MOBO fringe event at The Glasshouse in Newcastle. The event brought together leaders in events, culture, tourism, and heritage to develop a strategy for the North East, and that’s where I first met Sophie and Cat from BeaconHouse Events. That encounter led to my new role at the agency, and I’m a big believer in putting yourself out there to make opportunities happen. Don’t be afraid to go up and introduce yourself to people who you think you could work with – if I hadn’t, I might not have been in this role right now!

What’s been surprising about your time at BeaconHouse so far?

I honestly didn’t realise just how many events BeaconHouse works on at a time. It’s a real juggling act. You’ve got to be across everything – briefs, budgets, brand guidelines – all while managing client expectations and keeping things moving, so time management is crucial.”

I was aware of the sustainability impact of events from my studies, but the scale that BeaconHouse is focusing on this important issue has been really eye-opening. The team puts so much thought into making events more environmentally responsible, using tools that I’ve not worked with before, and I’m really excited to get stuck in and learn more about what goes into making an event truly sustainable.

Let’s talk dream clients. Do you have any bucket list projects?

I’m really excited to be working on the VIP hospitality for the Great North Run in September – that kind of large-scale, feel-good event is really up my street. I’m also really drawn to wellness-led events and anything with live music and entertainment. It was so exciting when the MOBOs came to Newcastle; being part of something like that again in the future would be incredible.

And what would you say to someone thinking of a career in events?

Put yourself out there – ask people about their roles, say yes to internships and take on volunteer opportunities because you never know what they’ll lead to. Most of my best career experiences have started by being brave enough to send a DM or start a conversation with the right person at an event.”

What can we find you doing outside of work?

The North East feels like home now, and when I’m not at work, I’m usually at the gym or doing reformer Pilates, which I love. I try and visit my family back down in Lincoln on a weekend too – mainly for cuddles with Freddie the Cavapoo and Coco the rescue Ragdoll cat! I’ve got my own rescue cat up here too called Fudge; she is my baby! I’m always on the lookout for new restaurants and walking spots in the North East too; Newcastle’s full of hidden gems, and I love exploring, and there are always new places opening up, especially in Heaton, where I’m living.

And finally, what did you want to be when you were little?

I really wanted to be a vet! I grew up in a house full of animals, but eventually, I realised I was more creatively than scientifically minded. I’m good at staying calm under pressure, and I’m very detail-orientated. I’ve just found a role where I get to flex that in a different way. Events are all about people and bringing them together around something meaningful, and I’m really pleased that my career path has led me to a sector where I get to make a difference and be creative at the same time.

With her calm head, creative spark, and get-stuck-in attitude, we know that Claudia is going to excel in the world of events, and we’re thrilled to have her on board!
